Charleston Breachway, 10 minutes from Jim's Dock.

Many anglers fish from the Charlestown Breachway for Striped Bass during the summer.

This is a popular spot for many shore fisherman using fly rods, spinning outfits, soft plastics, live eels and the like, targeting striped bass as they lay in wait for baitfish going in and out of Ninigret pond through the breachway.  It is best to fish at the first and last two hours of the tide, as at mid-tide time the current is very strong and it can be difficult to keep your offering in the zone where the fish hang out.  On the outgoing, fish hang near the end.     This picture is taken from the east side of the breach way near where the parking area is located.  There is also a boat ramp located near here.   You can use a very small boat or kayak to get over to the other side where there are very few anglers and so less competition for the prime fishing spots along the wall.

Below is a satellite photo of the area around the breach way showing the parking area on the east side (right) and the rocks going out into the ocean.  Note the dark spots in the water outside the breach way, these are areas of rocky bottom.
